About Our School

The idea for Bright Mind Preschool originated after Ms. Cookie began searching for the best childcare for her oldest daughter and was not completely satisfied with her options. After touring several centers and being put on waiting lists, she quickly realized that the demand for early childhood education was greater that the number of available spaces and she recognized that in some instances the number of children enrolled in a program seemed more important than the quality of the early childhood education and retention of well qualified teachers.   

Based on research and coursework, Ms. Cookie discovered how beneficial early childhood education can and how positive experiences in schooling contribute to success later in life. Ms. Cookie saw her chance to make a small change in the early childhood education field and opened Bright Mind Preschool.

Our school is a collaboration among staff, between staff and students and families where each stakeholder maintains and builds on high standards. Individual students are met where they are and challenged to believe in themselves and to learn and grow without limitations.

Bright Mind Preschool is located at 322 North Alfred Street in old town Alexandria, Virginia and serves the needs of children in the local community and greater DMV area. Bright Mind Preschool is a fully accredited NAEYC Preschool and for several years has won recognition for "Northern Virginia Magazine Best Preschools.” Bright Mind takes pride in serving the working families in its area with a full day, year-round preschool program for students ages 2½ years (thirty months) up to kindergarten eligibility. Our preschool is committed to providing strong educational foundations. 

We challenge and prepare our students in all areas of development: social emotional, self-help, gross motor, fine motor, art, math, literacy, Spanish, science and history. Bright Mind Preschool families and staff believe that children learn best through play. We provide an exciting learning environment that invites curiosity and allows for unique educational experiences. We contract with specialists that provide movement enrichment for young learners such as soccer, gymnastics and yoga.

Bright Mind Preschool is pleased to accept the Virginia Child Care and Child Care Aware of America subsidy programs. Bright Mind Preschool truly builds the foundation of learning for future leaders by facilitating development in language, gross motor and social skills.
